THE SCOUT’S PREVIEW – FANTASY CRICKET LEAGUE – WEEK 10

11 Jul 2025

Well bless my soul, it’s Week 10 already, and our overworked captains have once again hit the selection jukebox. Only the four league teams are strutting their stuff this week — the 5XI are off on a mystery train to recharge their cricketing brains. No special theme either, because you lot have suspicious minds and keep asking if I’m just here for the puns. Fair.

🎸1XI – Viva Oakfield Parkonians
The 1XI are all shook up as they shimmy over to Oakfield Parkonians minus some regulars (injuries, holidays… Vegas residencies?). Making his blue-suede debut is rising star Harry Robinson (5.6m), fresh off a string of performances hotter than a July afternoon at The Rec. County Honours Board man, Matt Higgins (6.4m) is back to prove last Saturday’s shenanigans were just a warm-up act for the real show this week. It’s now or never. Dave De Jong (4.8m) and Joe Robertson (4.4m) also step into the limelight in this jam-packed remix of a team.

🎤2XI – Aloha Colchester and East Essex CC (no jokes here, too easy)
Just like the 1XI, the 2s are shaking, rattling, and rolling with squad changes. Captain Drew Robinson (4m) keeps the armband and calls on Mike Rake (3.5m) to bring some jailhouse rock behind the stumps. Also strutting in are Ash Downes (5.5m), Marc Lewis (4.5m) and Ian Rudder (4.2m). It’s their fourth bout with a Champions League team in the last 4 weeks — one win and a tie already, the money that I’ve borrowed from you is on W.

🧡3XI – Burning Love for Promotion
The 3XI host Wanstead & Snaresbrook (don’t say it!) in a top 4 shootout. With promotion dreams dancing like sequins in the sun, I can’t help falling in love with these lads. Andy Freeman (4.4m) had a week more golden than Graceland and wants an encore. Plenty of wicketkeeping options in the team with Duncan Page (4m), Bobby Kenyon (4.4m) and Deepak Kumar (4.7m) all sparring for the spot, but it is Bobby that takes the honours.

🌊4XI – Sun and Sea down at Leigh
The 4XI travel to Leigh on Sea with Geoff Lake (5.6m) leading the team once again following the magnificent victory last week. Connor Busby (2.5m) is rewarded with a call up after some top performances with the 5XI. He is joined by fellow youngsters James McCartney (4.5m), Emma Poskitt (4m), Tharun Shanmuganand (2.7m) and Jordan Pickett (4m). Who’s the good luck charm here?

☀️Weather Alert: Blue Skies and Burning Thighs
Forecast says it’ll be Scorchio, so slap on your Factor 50 and keep your sun hat tilted at a nice angle. If I can dream — and oh, I do — it’d be 4 wins or is that too much. Fantasy team selections are required by 11am on Saturday and as I always say don’t forget that captains pick, wouldn’t want you crying in the chapel.

🎤Right, I’m over and out. Enjoy your cricket this weekend, thank you very much.
