The ECB have issued updated guidance around helmets and bowling machines, particularly for junior players.
Helmets are now mandatory for all U18s when batting, wicketkeeping or fielding in close, and must meet the latest safety standards. Neck or stem guards are strongly recommended, and U18s are no longer permitted to operate bowling machines or sidearms.
While stem guards are not yet compulsory, they are widely encouraged. If you’re buying a new helmet, it’s worth getting one fitted with a guard.
