Who Are We?
Established in 1887 and based at the Stanford-le-Hope Recreation Ground, Stanford-le-Hope Cricket Club (SLHCC) is a proud community-focused club with deep roots in the local area. We boast over 60 adult members and more than 50 junior players, all united by their love for cricket.
As longstanding members of the Hamro Foundation Essex League, we field four competitive teams on Saturdays, as well as a Sunday friendly team during part of the season. To meet the increasing demand from new players and the talent emerging from our junior section, we’ve even reintroduced a 5th XI when player availability allows.
Beyond the pitch, SLHCC has made a name for itself as a hub for local engagement. We host an annual Charity Day, raising funds for causes close to our members’ hearts—whether local charities or national organisations tied to personal stories. Additionally, our Youth Organiser has brought cricket to the wider community by visiting local schools, such as Stanford Junior School, to offer coaching and introduce children to the sport.
The 2024 season was a landmark year for SLHCC. Our 1st XI earned promotion for the first time in a decade, finishing as runners-up in HFEL Division 3. Meanwhile, our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th XI teams all held their own in their respective leagues, ensuring a strong presence across all levels of competition.
Our junior section is thriving, with teams competing at U9, U11, U13, and U15 levels in local leagues and cup competitions. During the winter months, many of our colts continue their cricket journey by participating in indoor tournaments. For younger children aged 5-8, we offer the ECB All Stars Cricket program, while those aged 8-11 can join the ECB Dynamos Cricket initiative. In 2024, we were proud to coach 15 All-Stars and 12 Dynamos, led by our dedicated in-house ECB-qualified coaches.
A Historic Milestone in 2025
The upcoming year, 2025, is set to be a momentous milestone for SLHCC, marking the 100th anniversary of cricket at Stanford Recreation Ground. To celebrate this historic occasion, we are thrilled to host a fixture against the MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club)—a prestigious honour rarely granted to local clubs. Looking Ahead
SLHCC is a club on the rise. With an ambitious vision for the future, we aim to build on our successes and continue to serve as a pillar of the local community. Through the support of our loyal members, local businesses, and the surrounding community—as well as our expanding online audience—we look forward to writing the next chapter in the history of this proud and historic club.
