THE SCOUT RECAP – FANTASY CRICKET LEAGUE – WEEK 9

09 Jul 2025

Mixed fortunes this week as the 1s and 2s took a collective tumble, but the 3s, 4s, and 5s launched a full-blown WWW comeback—wonderful, witty, and wildly successful.
💥 Pointfest Alert!
It was raining fantasy points this week: 4 players crashed through the 100-point ceiling, one sprinted past 200, and another launched straight into orbit with over 300. NASA has been
notified. Proceed to read with caution (and perhaps protective eyewear).
🏏 1XI – Emotion, Effort & a Magnificent Seven
The 1XI left it all out there against Westcliff on a day laced with emotion, but while the scoreboard favoured the opposition, one man rewrote the fantasy rulebook: Matt Higgins. Seven wickets, a composed fifty at number three, and a monstrous 350 fantasy points—he didn’t just steal the show, he rewired the entire stage lighting. Third on the honours board this week, that’s pretty decent.
🔥 4XI – Team of the Week Takeover
Six names on the TotW board, and not one of them there just for vibes. Shan bludgeoned 113 points with a stylish fifty, followed by the whole gang: Geoff Lake (43), Jordan Pickett (69), Geoff Gullet (49), George Church (50), and Will Robertson (52). The Scout’s Friday review read: “runs, wickets, points…” Basically, cricket's version of ‘Trust me I know.”
🧙‍♂️ 3XI – Wizardry & County Chaos
Player of the Month winner for June, Jono, led the team with a majestic defence of just 85 runs. Apparently, that was far too many for Orsett & Thurrock, who folded on 76. 45 points for the skip himself, plus Andy “Freemo” Freeman turned six wickets into 227 points and a deserved spot on the county honours board. The 3XI climbed to 4th and the promotion charge is real. Wanstead & Snaresbrook—brace yourselves.
🙃 2XI – A Slight Misfire, but Some Spark
The 2XI couldn’t keep up their recent good form as they went down to Hadleigh and Thundersley. Harry Robinson impressed with the bat to earn 151 points following a beautiful 66*. Rohit Duhan was the pick of the bowlers with a couple and 42 points.
🏆 5XI – Street Smart & Youth Power
The 5XI keep marching on, this time thanks to Dave Street’s classy fifty and Connor Busby’s 47. Then came the double-trouble bowlers: Roman Renoldi and Freddy Long, each bagging 3 wickets. Victory by 47 runs… just to keep the symmetry. Sadly, no Fantasy points or Team of the week entrants.
💫 Star Watch
There’s only one Player of the Week: Matt Higgins. Unfortunately, he didn’t make a captain pick, but maybe next week after the stable door has been closed. Manager of the Week goes to Andrew Love, whose team casually dropped three 100+ scores and deployed a triple captain. Tactical wizardry at its finest.

📈 League Leaders
Kya Ladd continues her classy stroll at the top, leaving Harry Robinson wondering if there’s a shortcut. Meanwhile, Freddie Robinson and Michael Edwards are tied in third, 300 points adrift but still hanging on with knuckles white. We're only halfway through—so keep your spreadsheets handy and your optimism unjustifiably high.
Okay then, Scout is signing off until Friday. Soak up that sunshine, sharpen those picks, and may your fantasy selections be as smooth as a well-brewed tea in the clubhouse.
