Match report Stanford endured their third frustrating draw of the season against Hainault and Clayhall. The Hainault batsmen made absolutely no attempt to try and chase Stanford's 192ao, which was felt by most to be about a par score for the pitch and conditions.
Stanford's total was based around Neil Fuller's first century for 4 years. Alongside Geoff Lake he put on 79 for the first wicket to give Stanford a great platform from which to push on, but all other batsmen found the going tough and Craig Ashley's 18 proved to be the second highest score of the innings. Stanford's cause helped by an incredible 23 byes.
As Hainault had bowled their overs so slowly, Stanford knew they would have to rush through their overs to try and force the result and they enjoyed a great start as Matthew Drain (3-21)and Adam Knight (2-12) reduced them to 26-5. Craig Ashley taking 3 catches behind the stumps. However this brought the Hainault skipper to the crease who signalled his intent by leaving every ball not hitting the stumps. He then proceeded to bat for the best part of 30 overs for 33 not out. Despite numerous bowling changes and ridiculously attacking fields there was to be no joy for Stanford, despite two wickets for Sid Kulasekara, as the game reached its conclusion with Hainault having scored just 105 from their 43 overs.
