Stanford-Le-Hope Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Old Parkonians on Sat 30 Jun 2012 at 13:00
Stanford-Le-Hope Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Stanford reversed their recent fortunes with a good win against Old Parkonians on Saturday. Having lost the toss, Stanford were surprisingly asked to bowl first. The visitors were soon regretting their decision as opening bowler Matthew Drain produced a devastating spell to take five wickets in his first six overs. Reeling at 20-5, Old Parkonians middle order had no other option than to avoid losing any more wickets. An attritional period followed with Old Parks happy to bat with a run rate of below 2 an over and frustrate the Stanford bowlers. It took the experience of old-hand Jon Fuller ( 2 for 20 off 7) to finally break the resistance and, along with the returning Matthew Drain (6 for 27 off 12 overs)finish the innings off in the 51st over for a well below par 100. After the break, the decision to promote big-hitter Lewis Robinson up the order to open proved to be a mistake, after he smashed a four first ball and then smashed his second straight up in the air. All of the Stanford batsman struggled to score freely against some accurate bowling with Nav Kalley (4 for 13) being the pick. It was left to Captain, Neil Fuller to push the scoring along with 28 at better than a run a ball, as Stanford reached their victory target with 13 overs still remaining.
