Season 2025: a rollercoaster with more dips than thrills, but hey — that’s cricket. My rousing words last Friday clearly didn’t rouse enough, as three out of four teams took a reluctant bow to the dreaded R word. But fear not! The 4XI pulled off a last-day miracle worthy of a Netflix docuseries, securing their spot for another year. Cue the slow-motion fist pumps.
Fantasy League Drama
It was tight. So tight, in fact, that Daryl Woodford snatched Manager of the Week by a single point from Tharun. But Tharun won’t be too glum, as dad Shan bagged Player of the Week with 133 points, thanks to a gem of a 50 that helped the 4XI seal their survival. Family bragging rights secured.
The Overall Winner?
That glory bomb is dropping in a separate post — because some moments deserve their own spotlight and slow clap. I’ll be selling tickets shortly so go get some snacks.
Statto’s Corner – 2025 Highlights
-
40 teams entered — our biggest ever. We’re basically the Premier League now.
-
14 different managers won Manager of the Week. Democracy in action.
-
3 won Manager of the Week twice: Freddie Robinson, Darren Evans, and Terry Busby — like the Ocean’s Three of fantasy cricket, but with less casino and more captaincy.
-
Highest weekly score: Tharun, Week 2, 964 points. Still not enough for Manager of the Week this time. Ouch.
-
63 players made Team of the Week. That’s more rotation than Pep Guardiola.
-
Most appearances in Team of the Week: Harry Robinson (9), Freddie Robinson (8 ), Shan Selvaraj (7). What a team.
-
Highest individual player score: Matt Higgins, 350 points in Week 9. Basically played like he was controlling the game on PlayStation.
-
Highest Team of the Week score: 1,341 in Week 13. That team was on steroids (figuratively, of course).
-
Team of the Week representatives breakdown:
1XI – 20.3%
2XI – 23%
3XI – 26.7%
4XI – 29.9%
The 4XI may be the underdogs, but they’re clearly hogging the spotlight.
Final Thoughts
Just one more post to come and then that’s all from me. If you’ve made it this far through my ramblings, you deserve a medal — or at least a biscuit. I’ve tried to keep it light, even when the results weren’t. Thanks for sticking with it, and please come back next year for more stats, sass, and scoreboard heartbreak. Got ideas to make it better? Fire them my way.
