THE SCOUT RECAP - FANTASY CRICKET LEAGUE – WEEK 7

24 Jun 2025

It’s been a tough one to put into words this week. The weekend brought contrasting fortunes: defeats for the 1XI, 3XI, and 4XI, but what a performance from the 2XI! Where did that come from? We’ve always known they had it in them — and this time, they unleashed it in spectacular fashion. Let’s hope it lights a spark for the rest of the club.
Taking on top-of-the-table Frenford was always going to be a mountain to climb, especially after they declared at a hefty 311/2 in just 43 overs. But the response was something special. Matt Lewis smashed a century, ably supported by Dave De Jong with 90, steering the 2XI to an incredible win. Every batter made it into double figures — a true team effort. Deservedly, Matt takes Player of the Week honours with a superb 216 points, closely followed by DDJ on 160.
In the 3XI, Ravi Sandaname stood tall with a brilliant 86 (161 points), although it wasn’t quite enough to carry the team past Epping in what turned out to be a feisty home fixture. Shout-outs also go to Dan Copp (53 points) and Sas Muthuraaman (49 points), both of whom earned places in the Team of the Week.
The 4XI put up a respectable total against a strong Horndon side, but the hosts chased it down. Credit to Tharun Shanmuganand (71 pts), Connor Busby (50 pts), and Geoff Gullett (49 pts) for their efforts.
As for the 1XI — the cricketing gods just aren’t smiling on them at the moment. But they’ll stick at it, stay strong, and turn things around. I truly believe that. One silver lining this week was Jack Scutt’s batting display, which earned him 45 points and a spot in the Team of the Week.
Over in the Fantasy League, Kya Ladd continues to extend her lead at the top. Her decision to bring in Matt Lewis was sheer brilliance — a textbook mix of instinct and cricketing savvy. Had she triple-captained him, the points tally could’ve been astronomical! Still, her 711 points were more than enough to earn Manager of the Week award.
So, a weekend of highs and lows — but through it all, let’s keep the faith. The 1XI host Bentley this weekend, and it would be fantastic to see plenty of support over at The Rec for them.
Team selection is still a little up in the air but should be confirmed by Friday — I’ll send a full update then. I also believe a 5XI match is on the cards, so choose your Fantasy XI wisely!
Until Friday, I’ll leave you with this…
“So, when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong.”
