West Essex 4th XI v Stanford-Le-Hope Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 23 Jun 2012 at 13:00
Stanford-Le-Hope Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
A Stanford side shorn of several key players slipped to a 5 wicket defeat against league leaders, West Essex on Saturday. Having lost the toss on yet another damp and grey day, Stanford were unsurprisingly asked to bat first by the home team. Having lost Neil Fuller early (again), it was left to David Ashley (19) and Lewis Robinson (21) to set a foundation. At 67-3 after 25 overs, Stanford were well-placed to push on and post a competitive total. These hopes were dashed as the West Essex bowlers took control, with Graeme Eversden posting the impressive figures of 6-36 off 18 overs. No Stanford batsman was able to make an impression as the wickets tumbled and the innings subsided to 101 all out. After a brief rain shower during the innings interval, Stanford started brilliantly with the ball. Lewis Robinson (1-17 off 8 overs) and Colin Knight (3-50 off 10 overs) both bowled well and, aided by some exemplary slip catching, reduced the home side to 58-5. With an outside chance of victory looking possible, Captain Neil Fuller decided to bring on his first change bowlers to try and finish the match. However, within five overs the game was over as the West Essex middle order tore into the bowling, hitting sixes at will, to win by five wickets.
