Fantasy Cricket League Update - Week 11

23 Jul 2024

First of all, apologies for the radio silence, other cricketing duties have kept me busy for the last couple of weeks, namely Presidents Day, which this year will be on 18th August at the rec, with all support welcome for the annual SLHCC XI against a Presidents XI match.
I digress, so let’s get on to matters in hand, an update on week 11 and what a good week it was, especially for some of the club’s batters as no fewer than five fifties were recorded.
The 1XI had a winning draw away to Benfleet as they just couldn’t get that all important last wicket. Setting a score of 254-4 with Michael Edwards (5.5m) 96 and 146 points and Tom Willats (6.5m) 76 runs earning 136 points putting on 144 for the second wicket. In reply Ralf Fernando (7.5m) was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets and 65 points.
The 2XI had a welcome win at home to Old Brentwoods, Rama Bashamoni (4.9m) with 72, Drew Robinson (3.9m) 58 and Dave De Jong (5.1m) with 49, scoring 147, 108 and 69 fantasy points respectively. The total of 243/8 was too good as the oppo were bowled out for just 186. Harry Robinson (4.5m) the tormentor in chief with 3-30 and 71 points.
The 3XI edged a nailbiter away to Epping posting 159 and then bowling out the home team for 155. Vinay Kumar (4.9m) was the mainstay of the innings with 60 off 59 balls and 135 points. Freddie Robinson (4.5m) with 4 wickets and 83 points and Ash Downes (4m) 3 wickets and 75 points saw the team to victory.
The 4XI had a tough match against promotion hopefuls Harold Wood but the two standout performances were with the ball as Emma Poskitt (3m) with 3 wickets for 35 points and Geoff Gullet (4m) also with 3 and 69 points.
In terms of the Fantasy League, Harry Robinson continues to sit in top spot for the sixth consecutive week extending his lead to 511 points. The manager of the week, again a reminder that there is no prize just the honour of being the best player for the last week, goes to Jamie Gray, who scored an incredible, highest weekly score of the season so far, with 944 points. It certainly helps when you have four of the batters who scored fifties with one of them as your captain. Take note fellow managers.
Ok that’s it for now, a little birdie has told me selection is good this week so look out for team news on Friday at 11am, will see you then.
